How to Create a California Franchise Tax Board Account
To set up an online account with the FTB, you will need to visit the FTB website at www.ftb.ca.gov. From there, you can select the "Individuals" or "Businesses" option, depending on your needs.
For individuals:
Click on the "File" tab, then "Online Services" and select "Create MyFTB Account."
Provide your personal information such as your name, address, Social Security number, and date of birth.
Create a username and password, and answer a few security questions.
Verify your identity by providing additional information such as your email address or phone number.
For Businesses:
Click on the "File" tab, then "Online Services" and select "Create My FTB Account."
Provide your business information such as your Business name, FEIN, and address.
Create a username and password, and answer a few security questions.
Verify your identity by providing additional information such as your email address or phone number.
Once your account is set up, you will be able to access your tax records, make payments, and file taxes electronically. It's important to note that you must file taxes electronically if you owe more than $20,000 in taxes. You can also set up an Electronic Funds Withdrawal to pay taxes directly from your bank account, and you can also sign up for e-mails and notifications.
